The Portomyrina Palace is on the island of Lemnos (sometimes called Limnos) in the northeast of Greece's Aegean Sea, where fascinating history combines with a stunning landscape.

The Portomyrina Palace is situated along the edge of the long stretch of sandy beach in the bay of Avlonas, the hotel has beautiful views towards Halkidiki's Mount Athos, and is just a twenty minute stroll to Mirina, the charming capital of Lemnos, with its shops, restaurants and imposing Venetian castle.

Our hotel is set amongst landscaped grounds with well-tended lawns which lead down to the water's edge. Within the grounds of the hotel are the archaeological remains of the pre-Hellenistic Temple of Artemis, preserved as a unique feature of the hotel.

Review by Paul and Leo (most people will remember my 2yr old son, he was a Lemnos legend by the end of it). 30May for 19nts, what a fab holiday! We will be back next yr or later this yr if work pans out well. Our first ever Neilson holiday, why did it take so long?
Loved the staff, don't ever try and change them, seeing them having a good time was contagious! Can't mention everyone but special thanks to Bonner and Katy for saving us from a fate worse than death, the bar staff for keeping us lubricated, Rachel and her great boat trip, Caroline for her massive help, the chefs for somehow making me put on weight despite all the activities and almost last but not least all the nannies who looked after Leo, HELLO BLAIR!!! Water ski team - you rock! Jess - i owe you more drinks and i'll keep 'em coming when i return.
Spotless throughout, very decent room but no one spends much time there, great facilities, good availability of kit and such a great feeling. I found i got home and was taking time to ask people how they're day was, i've never been anywhere like it and loved it 100%.
Any niggles? Nope. Not sure where Leo caught chicken pox (i blame the plane there) but he's got to get it somewhere and i'm glad it was in Lemnos. He cleared up in record time in the sun and water so good all round.
Any tips? Giant bag of laundry was just €7 in town, same day service too, vs often €3 an item at hotel. Go past Centros and take the next left. Try the meze (like tapas) place opposite the taxi rank. Doesn't open til gone 8.30 so have a drink first and ensure 4+ of you so you can try lots of different things.
Roy and Ryan, i hear i got a special mention in the awards night, thanks v.much. I'm hoping to run the Comrades Marathon(89km) on 30th May next yr! When i return to Lemnos next season i'm going to be in awesome shape and i will beat you next time!
Cheers to all of you! Paul and Leo xx

June 2009 Lemnos, Portomyrina Palace Hotel: A wonderful week, the second week of the season. Meltimi didn't show, but there were winds (force 1 to strong 4) over the 7 days, which proved great. Bit later on in the season and you'll get even better strong winds too. Great hotel, great staff. The friendly customer service exceeded any expectations I had. All the parents and their kids in the resort looked to be having a whale of a time in their respective groups, and around the resort. Plan your time well for the entertainment, and bookable sports(tennis, waterski/wakeboard etc) and you'll be have a great time! Food is great, as is the entertainment. We in the end between us tried the Sea Safari with Nikos, Sunset cruise, Wine tasting, Cocktail clinic, BBQ Night, Greek night and enjoyed them all. I'd recommend having a go at a new sport - you'll be in the right place to pick it up quickly. Kitesurfing - Club Keros is good from what i've seen, but remember it's not included in the holiday. As for getting a better feel of the resort, I'd recommend watching the small Google video to get some idea of the place - there are some more pictures on Tripadvisor for Portomyrina Palace Hotel etc. There are more recent picture albums (2009) on the site here if you click on the right link, and videos etc are available on here/youtube. Might even be a Photosynth if I can make one. My only complaint - Beginner windsurf equipment. Why get absolute beginners learning on plastic 1980s monoliths? From a long time windsurfer and sailor, it seems so silly to use these boards at all, beyond a short term corner-cutting, short sighted cost-cutting exercise by Neilson. Beginners struggle SO much with the nasty plastic boards, as they're unstable and can't gybe or tack half as well as the Starboard beginner boards they also stock. Beg, borrow, and run into the sea with the much much better Starboard beginner boards. They're more stable, better deck material, and can take a beginner sail right up to a bigger sail (I happily cruised around with a 8.5m one on Regatta day). Seeing my partner suffer trying to learn to windsurf and tack on one was windsurf soul-crushing. Yes, they're less indestructible (akin to the Laser vs beginner Pico (no Toppers at Lemnos? Surely a mistake?!) but with an unbattened bedsheet beginner sail, and a crap old board from the 80s, it makes progression much harder, trust me. Dinghy sailors dont have this. Yes, it's Picos vs Lasers, but at least Picos are good boats whilst being (nearly) indestructable. Hopefully Neilson won't be short-sighted about it, and will get more Starboard boards, and use them earlier in lessons, and sort this out this season/2010. Get out your wallet and dingsticks Neilson! 5/5 resort. Missing it immensely, and wishing i'd gone with the 2 week offer Thomas Cook offered us! Have a great time at Lemnos :)

Oct 2008, Lemnos. Stunning about sums it up. Hotel was clean and tidy, the rooms in the garden were lovely. The staff were all friendly and ready to tend to your any needs. The clubs were fantastic, thanks Alex, Flick and Jen. The beach crew were on the button every time as were Nikos and the ski team. Having just got back from Lemnos and our first Neilson holiday, we are planning the next already. Well done !!
