The Portomyrina Palace is on the island of Lemnos (sometimes called Limnos) in the northeast of Greece's Aegean Sea, where fascinating history combines with a stunning landscape.

The Portomyrina Palace is situated along the edge of the long stretch of sandy beach in the bay of Avlonas, the hotel has beautiful views towards Halkidiki's Mount Athos, and is just a twenty minute stroll to Mirina, the charming capital of Lemnos, with its shops, restaurants and imposing Venetian castle.

Our hotel is set amongst landscaped grounds with well-tended lawns which lead down to the water's edge. Within the grounds of the hotel are the archaeological remains of the pre-Hellenistic Temple of Artemis, preserved as a unique feature of the hotel.

Just returned from a 2 weeks in Lemnos with our 11 yr old son. As per last year, we had a fab time. Some days windier than others but overall fairly consistent. Hotel room (dbl suite) good although the bed was very hard! Hotel is generally ok but looking a little tired. However, we were told that renovations/modernization of hotel, pool area etc were planned for the winter months ready for next season, so should be looking great by then. All the staff were fantastic as usual, those in the restaurant, bar, housekeeping, reception etc - thank you. Special thanks must also go to .... Little Rich and Emma for having the patience of saints with Paul whilst doing his L1 Windsurfing. Paul and Nic for excellent advanced sailing lessons. Oli for encouraging us to sail in challenging winds (plus for providing extremely funny entertainment by having his chest waxed and dressing up in lycra as part of the Spice Girls routine). Ducky for helping me gain more confidence when sailing (having done my L1 again!). Tom (bar) for providing excellent bar beach service (which was very useful after I injured my knee and was resigned to lying on my sunbed for a few days watching the action from the beach). Henry for his great entertainment and for passing on a few guitar playing tips to Paul. The Hotshots team of Sophie, Fi, Nic, Glen, Olly, Paul, Mike and Pompei (bottom of Championship says Sam!!). Sam had a great 2 wks and says you were all awesome! He learnt lots and had loads of fun. Sam and Ed for encouraging Sam with his tennis. All the waterskiing team for helping Sam to progress onto the rope. Wakeboarding next year he hopes! Overall, it was a great holiday - thank you all again. Hope to see you next August (yep, the next one has already been booked!). If you are thinking of going to Lemnos, we can't recommend it highly enough. Go - you won't regret it. And lastly, if you want a laugh, follow the link below to see the Beachies doing their Spice Girls routine. You won't be disappointed!! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=whEUTAtfaFI

Have just got round to congratulating everyone at Portomyrina for making our stay so fantastic. Tom and Beth (17 and 15) forgot they had parents and loved the resort and people so much they are going back next year! The staff were amazing, friendly, helpful and fun -nothing was too much trouble and are invaluable to Neilsons. They made the holiday for all 4 of us.The food was great - a huge range of well cooked food that stoked us up 3 times a day.The town was near enough for T & B to enjoy by themselves,so they were happy at night. The only silly minor thing I would mention was that the beds were so hard in our room I struggled to move in the first 3 mornings!Oh and another boat for the waterskiing would be great-so the millpond could be enjoyed. This was our first Neilson holiday but it will definately not be our last.
Thanks one and all for a fab week!

Just got back from Lemnos and a fantastic two weeks!! We were concerned that it would not live up to Halkidiki last year, but it even surpassed our expectations! Great sailing with an excellent beach team and determined ski team, despite choppy conditions. Particular mentions go to Pompey, for encouraging me to go for it and helping get my RYA level 2 and also Sophie, another beachie who was always patient, helpful and smiling. My 13 year old also had a private Dart 16 lesson with Nic which he claims was the best thing he has ever done (he now wants to buy one - thanks Nic!)!! We stayed in the garden apartments which were very handy for the pool and the beach. Pretty comfortable overall, although the bathrooms are a bit tired. The food was good, but not quite up to Anastasia (Halkidiki) standards and the restaurant could do with a little more air moving through it. Great swimming pool, even if a little deep for aqua aerobics! Saltwater pool was unexpected by the kids, but probably healthier than lots of chlorine. The Spa was also lovely and a little oasis of tranquillity if you need to get away from the busy activities. The local town is really pleasant to visit, with some nice restaurants overlooking the marina and a few tourist shops to browse through. This was our third Neilson holiday and second beach (we even ran into some friends made on last year's holiday!) and we will definitely be booking again - maybe Turkey??
