Quiet, comfortable, relaxing hotel. We stayed in January 2007, one of only two English couples there at the time. Very comfortable room with nice view, fantastic food (set menu, so maybe not great if you're very fussy), friendly and helpful staff. Either walk (soft boots!) to the gondola lifts for a good 5-10 minute warm-up, or take the free hotel minibus, which would also pick you up at the end of the day (either at set times, or on demand if needed). We'll surely be back!

I went to Sivota for a week a couple of years ago. It was the first week of the season, in May. What a place! Incredibly scenic, with calm waters and a really secluded feel. Mountain biking is my thing, and Sivota has some great routes. I learnt to wakeboard - easy when the water is so flat. The only disappointment was the wind. I would have loved to work on my dodgy intermediate windsurfing skills, but the wind in Sivota is really light. And the village of Sivota is a short walk away - Good for an evening stroll.

A fantastic sailing area run by a great team. Went with the intention of diving, snorkelling, sight seeing, but the windsurfing was far too 'awesome'. The Neilson and hotel staff are all really attentive (although the food would have been alot nicer if it had been hotter) and go out of their way to make sure your holiday is action packed. We'll definately go back!!

Review by Barry Atkinson for Norway, Geilo
StarStarStarStarStar

I went to Geilo in January 1985 as a complete beginner. Geilolia is an ideal place to learn especially if you stay in the Forest Cabins or the resort hotel (Vestlia). That was my sixth Neilson holiday but obviously the first in the snow. I chose Neilson for snow because of brilliant holidays in Nidri, Porto Heli (twice) Finikounda and a Beach Plus in Corfu. I have nothing bad to say about Neilson except I am disapointed with many aspects of the "new" website which do not work very well.

Review by DavidClatworthy for Austria, Söll, Neilson Lodge Mounty
StarStarStarStarStar

By far one of the best places I have ever stayed in. My room was a little small, but I paid a reduced rate of £200 so no complaints. The Lodge Mounty is run by 5 girls and they are all amazing and will make you feel at home. The head chef Jess makes simply the best food you will eat anywhere. You get to choose from 2 starters, 2 main courses and 2 deserts and you will never be dissappointed. I had the best Christmas at the Lodge and I'm booking to go back in March 2008. I dont know why it only has a 3 star rating???? Thank You for a great time.

Review by EAA Hassler for Austria, Katschberg, Hotel Cristallo
StarStarStarStarStar

We just returned from a week winter holiday. We had terrific time at hotel Cristallo and Katschberg ski slopes. Good food, good facilities & accommodation (only the fairly big ski store room got a bit too crowded on peak hours), nice hotel staff. I would've rated the hotel with 4 stars if only our last night didn't get spoiled by the lady at the reception who somehow forgot to keep her teaching that Guests are to be served with a smile and lots of politeness when we asked for a little longer than 10am check out time. How so true when a little spot could ruin a white cloth.

Chalet Altiport provided one of the best locations and facilities we have enjoyed in many years of ski holidays. Piers (chef) and Kim were excellent hosts.

We went to the Hotel Almhof at christmas which was excellent, great facilites, service etc. However one word of warning even though the resort is billed as family friendly our 3.5 year old was in the ski kindergarten and nobody spoke a word of english. Some of the instructors for older ages may speak english but none of the ski kindergarten instructors.

We stayed in the Yllas Loma Cabins and ours was absolutely stunning! it was in such a beautiful area in amoungst loads of snow covered trees. we were just out of the way but not too far from eveything. we did a variety of different excursions and all were such wonderful experiences! would do them all again. tried a private lesson skiing on our last day (we had never done it before) and have deffinately caught the bug. we loved it and want to go back and do the whole sking package! i could go on and on about this holiday but i'll be here all night. i really can't wait to go back-a truely magical place!

Went to Dahab for Christmas week. Plenty of wind, excellent kit, especially the new Starboard Futuras. Tuition was brill and the team were great fun and very friendly. Excellent sailing areas although I only stayed in the lagoon area but my husband and son said 'Speedy' was awesome! Lovely hotel, lovely food, can't fault it, everything at Dahab you could ever want in windsurfing holiday. Will definately be visiting Dahab again. Thoroughly recommend a visit.

resort good-plenty of activities for non skiers, easily arranged via info office or rep. buses ran hourly around pistes that were open-shame they stopped at 6.30pm,as we were in log cabins (warm comfy well equipped in picturesque area) couldnt make use of late opening (8pm)red front slopes unless we got a taxi(similar cost to uk) good ski hire-zero point-also they will replace lost ski passes if you keep number.beginners need to bus to south slopes-good for learning/practice.ravintola restaurant popular good and less pricey than most -recommended. cantina bar good for snacks-fries cheaper than zero point!plenty of snow. be prepared for nakedness at tunturi spa-didnt bother me!
hated flying from heathrow-lack of organisation from BMI didnt help, but would not stop me returning.

StarStarStarStarStar

Lovely intimate resort, the Swedes are lovely, very friendly and welcoming. The service in the restaurants and even the 'Sybylla' burger bar was excellent, not a miserable face in sight! Our Neilson reps, James & Natalie were brilliant and went out of their way to ensure our stay was a memorable one for all the right reasons. We stayed in one of the Skalsbyn apartments, which was very warm (too warm sometimes!) clean and comfortable, and had everything we needed. With a view overlooking the piste, the ski school and lifts were less than 100m, and we were able to ski in and out to/from our door. The only thing I missed was a pool in the nearby hotel to jump into at the end of the afternoon....

Review by matt crooks for Bulgaria, Bansko
StarStarStarStarStar

Bansko has some good runs, although the long gondola ride up every morning cuts into your boarding time, add that to a cathing a bus every morning and your wake up call needs to be very early.
Just come back and although nursing a broken shoulder 'on the last day' had some good board time + improved through the excellent advanced lessons 'jo'.
Generally the food in the hotels is poor even though ours was 4 star.
Prices are no cheaper than uk unless you walk miles out of the centre.
Reps were ok when you could manage to find one but very dull on the organised events.
Upon injuring shoulder reps had a good laugh but offered no help regarding aftercare or how to handle insurance claims ect.
If your going for the slopes this is for you,if your after an all round holiday look carefully

Review by Matt for Norway, Beitostolen
StarStarStarStarStar

The perfect place to learn, the ski school, and Jonas in particular were great, and had two complete beginners skiing in knee deep powder by day 5.
Jacek the rep did a brilliant job making sure the holiday ran smoothly, from sorting out the ski fitting to booking us on a husky sled trip!
While on the expensive side when in resort, eating and drinking out, its not too expensive in the supermarket, and when you do venture out Peppes Pizza is possibly the best in Europe! The large really is large, and more then enough for two people, including lunch the next day!
So if your looking to go somewhere to learn you can do alot worse than Beitostolen! Thanks Neilson for a great first ski holiday, I doubt it will be our last.

Had 343 in June 2007 and holiday was difficult to fault. Lead crew excellent, boat was spotless. Long transfer to Lumbarda but last section by boat breaks it up. Area we sailed in was beautiful and I rank this holiday as one of our best ever. I am coming back in June 2008..I think that says it all.

Review by Sarah for Norway, Hemsedal
StarStarStarStarStar

Hotel Fossheim in Hemsedal, Norway, 060108. WOW. We were diverted from our initial airport (Fagernes) and had to go to Oslo. This was a considerably longer transfer, following quite a long delay at the airport. However when we finally turned up, the rep was great. Once we were all safely ensconsed on the bus and on our way, the rep spent almost the entire journey (3.5 hours) talking to each individual party.
When we arrived at the hotel, they had thankfully kept some food aside for us which was very welcome and fabulous. The reception area and lounge area was lovely; huge leather sofa's and open fire with flat screen TV's hung in various locations.
There are no lifts and our rooms (6 of us in 3 rooms) were on the 3rd floor. This was not really a massive problem but the luggage was heavy by the time we reached our brilliant room. The lighting was subdued to say the least which is all well and good but you can't see a great deal! The hotel has male and female sauna's which were open for a few hours each afternoon after the snowboarding was complete.
The ski bus picked us up at the bus stop about 30 seconds from the hotel front door! The short journey into Hemsedal was about 5 minutes and the slopes were a further 10 minutes away. Not too big a hassle. However, you were slightly isolated once you'd returned to the hotel.
The slopes were open, long and not crowded perhaps because of the time of year we went. No queuing for the lifts on the whole and no avoidance tactics required on the slopes! Not all the slopes were open when we first arrived but by half way through the week, more slopes and lifts were opened allowing access to more blue and red runs. When we got to the top of the mountains the visibility was no more than 10 metres at times and it was VERY good with a heavy cross wind.
Not too many restaurants on the slopes, and the two at the bottom of the main slope and gthe main lift were often quite crowded. Norwegian prices are somewhat higher than perhaps Europe and certainly higher than you would expect in UK. A small beer being about £6, plate of chips being £4, hot chocolate being £3 on average.
Two of our party were beginner snowboarders. They had lessons and by the end of the week they were joining us on red runs, tentative but able to get safely to the bottom. Clearly the instruction was good the learning facilities (nursery slopes etc) are very good.
We did the snow mobiling organised by neilson. The taxi to the snow mobiles was £120 (so £20 each) and the snow mobile was about £60 and they were happy for you to swap drivers. Basically it was £100 per couple which was quite expensive, but we were there for a couple of hours and had a great time. Neilson need to get the snow mobile owners to collect guests so as to reduce the cost. Disappointingly, there was no toboganning!!
The 6 of us had a fabulous time, the hotel was great, the snow was great, it was cold! The transfer back to the airport was at 0315 hours due to Fagernes being closed again which was unpleasant but managable.
Really recommend this for anyone fed up of queuing in France and having to avoid skiers and boarders on the slopes.

Review by Paul for Bulgaria, Bansko
StarStarStarStarStar

Had a fantastic holiday in Bansko. Skiing great for beginners or intermediates-good long blue runs, excellent ski school. Worth going to Hotel Strazhite if you can-it's comfortable & in a good location avoiding the huge building site that much of Bansko currently consists of. Rep v helpful. Food in hotel plentiful, food on slopes is junk food but at least reasonably priced.

The main problem the resort has it that the gondola has reached saturation in the mornings. The first hour & a half of each day was a race to get in the gondola queue before the hoards. With all the building that's going on in Bansko I don't see how the gondola system will be able to transport the additional people next winter.

We have returned from Levi after a fab week (half term) As a cross country skier it was like paradise with so many routes and floodlights at night. The kotas en route with fires and refreshments were great. The downhill skiing for the experienced teenagers in my family met with approval. We went on an excursion to the Reindeer farm including a sleigh ride - this was magical (although the excursions are expensive). Our rep Vikki was helpful and very good at her job. Reindeer steak at the Steak House was delicious

We stayed here and although it was pleasant in comparison to other accommodation on the resort - to say it was dissapointing is an understatement! There were supposed to be 5 of us and we were advised we were getting a two room apartment - excpet we were put in a duplex apartment! In the end one of our party pulled out so there were 4 of us - but there was only one room upstairs, and then two bunk beds in the hall way - with no window and if you get chlostrophobic then really not good! in the end the other two of us slept in the lounge area, which is also the kitchen hence making it difficult for people to use kitchen area. Bathroom upstairs was ok, but downstairs bathroom was just plain dirty! They also do not wash the blankets which are filthy, and although they provide clean linen, avoid the blankets at all costs! One to avoid for sure!

If you are looking for a modern barratt home, then this the place for you. Of all the ski chalets we have stayed in this the most un atmospheric. We had the unfortunate pleasure for staying over christmas, thinking we would get that tradtional "swedish" christmas. It was like staying in Travel Lodge With NO LOG FIRE, its actually a gas fire with a cement surround, and even though we have lighlighted this many times it is still being mis advertised. The rooms are small, we had to take it turns to get out bed to dress in the morning, due to lack of space. Very disappointing, and very disappointed with the Neilson. On a positive note, very pretty quiet resort,no good for beginners though only one green run they can ski. Rep and chalet maid brilliant. In summary, nice resort, suggest stay elsewhere.

Review by for Italy, Kronplatz, Hotel Olympia
StarStarStarStarStar

A group of us stayed for a week in March 08 and had a great time. The staff were friendly and very helpful, the food was good and we enjoyed the use of the sports centre. The hotel bus to the slopes was very convenient, but it's a manageable walk if you miss the last bus due to the apres ski! We would highly recommend Kronplatz for a mixed ability/ski/snowboard group as it provides well for all levels.

Review by Simon for Egypt, Dahab
StarStarStarStarStar

Dahab is perfect for water based sports fanatics.

It is not suitable for families with children under the age of 4.

The childcare is superb, but places are limited to 5 spots. Therefore if you have any wish of sharing time with other families with small children I would suggest Sivota in Greece.

The Egyptian staff at the Coralia Beach restaurant are not child friendly, which made dinner at times unnerving.

In all honesty I think Neilson should designate this resort as for adults/water sport fanatics only, unless your children are 7 yrs old and above.

Neilson are a great company, but they have got Coralia Beach wrong for young families.

On our recent holiday to the Coralia beach I was really pleased with the childcare we received. Both my 2 and 4 year old had a great time in particular in kids club, in fact they couldnt wait to join at the start of every day and it was a struggle to get them to leave ! I was more than happy to leave my children playing in kids club whilst I made the most of my free time - most of it spent on the water! We found the hotel staff were very helpful, and enjoyed our family time together at dinner. I would more than recommend Dahab as a resort suitable for all ages of families. My only worry before we went was whether it would be too hot for the children but I found that the children were kept out of the sun at the peak of the day. UV suits were a must though in keeping them protected. hopefully we'll get to go back soon Sally

Hotel Schwebebahn, 8/2/08-15/2/08: sadly disappointing after last year's Neilson holiday at Hotel Crystallo in Katschberg.I found that charging 4 Euros for TAP WATER with the meal particularly galling.Drink prices very high too and food only good rather than excellent. Apparently there seems to have been cost-cutting on the catering side since last year. Our family room was excellent with interesting scenes of nursery slope and cable cars from the balcony. All in all the kids seemed to like the place just as much but they did not need a creche this time.Weather was variable and the nursery slope was slushy on departure.I would book earlier in the year next time.Oh,and dont expect to see a Neilson Rep.Saw him once to get the Ski Passes and no sight or sound of him thereafter.Dont book VIP skis like I did-no need for them and the hire shop gave us standard skis anyway.Still waiting for that refund, Neilson.

Review by Bob for Sweden, Åre, Hotel Diplomat Aregarden (Are)
StarStarStarStarStar

Great hotel with excellent facilities, great location and generally friendly staff.

The one fly in the ointment was the arrangements for evening meals. Sittings were very early evening (18:00-18:30) which didn't suit us at all and, except for one evening when there was a buffet, there was no choice of meal available. Even though the standard of food was very good, we ended up eating out half the time and so felt the half-board option didn't offer good value.

Review by Gallienne family for Austria, Katschberg, Hotel Cristallo
StarStarStarStarStar

We had a fantastic family holiday at hotel Cristallo in Katschberg, if the slopes were any closer they would have been inside the hotel. The food was great in fact it could not of been any better.
With the excellent staff and our nelison holiday rep (Rob)the service could not of been faulted.
A holiday to be repeated.

Review by karen r for Norway, Geilo
StarStarStarStarStar

Returned recently from our second week in Geilo. Last year was the last chance saloon, with my ski-avoiding partner ready to quit the slopes forever. Fortunately Geilo was absolutely the right medicine and we're set for many years more I hope. Our 2 children (3 and 5) loved the Snowman club and our son was ready to happily wave us goodbye and stay with Charman for good! Our daughter had a great time too in ski-school - the Geilolia ski instructors speak perfect English and are very patient (with big people too thankfully!). The Forest Cabins accommodation was fabulous - spacious, warm and well-appointed, and it was great to have a little of our own 'outside space' for snowman-building and the like. The friendly woman on reception loaned us sledges for the kids all week too - a big hit, and very handy for lugging tired little bodies about the place. The reps, especially Ian (who even managed to charm and amuse at 4.30am), were helpful, pleasant, and easy to get hold of if needed. The only downer was that 4.30am bus to the airport. It's a shame after such a relaxing and wonderful week to return to work shattered! And the flight times this year (and the transfer from Oslo) are actually worse! It's the only thing leaving our return trip in the balance. For a 'family friendly' top 10 resort, a 4.30 am check-in at Gatwick with small children seems very unfriendly.

This is a brilliant resort for families and for beginners. only drawbacks are: drag lifts (mainly T-bars); limited runs

Review by Kristoff for Sweden, Vemdalen , Chalet Anders
StarStarStarStarStar

This a well thought out Chalet. No it is not a "typical alpine log chalet" but it has everything you need including a host to look after you. we went as a small group of 4 an there were others here and the chalet worked fine (one word of warning there are 2 small rooms - those people will need to spread out into the spacious chalet). 2 toilets and one shower per floor (6 people to a floor) and 2 showers attached to the Sauna. a spacious lounge, several televisions throughout. Ski locker drying "cupboards" boot and coat storage (could do with more hooks or benches). one of our party found the air quite dry so if you suffer from this come prepared.

Please READ your invoice (Neilson have made the following points clear based on previous feedback but you really have no-one to blame if you ignore that and the feedback here ;o)) it states on there no log fire (but the gas fire is fine - you probably won't need it anyway) and that the rooms are variations on the twin theme (again not a huge problem but you will want to know)

Hotel Brussels, Val D’Isere
Home of the Beast of the Piste

How would you like to be asked to leave a hotel just because you insist on talking to the manager about a noisy bedroom? Then this is the hotel for you, and Madame Isabelle Sanchez, is the perfect manager.

Everyone else, based on my family’s experience, should stay away. The rooms on the piste side are fine (if a bit over priced), the food is excellent and the staff are charming apart from the two girls in reception who are surly and unhelpful.

But if you have a room on the town side – ours was 310 – expect to be woken up by the bar under you and the drunken revellers returning throughout the night.

Speaking to Reception, we discovered there was no other room available, apart from a very expensive suite. So I asked on over ten occasion
