Charming, traditional resorts offering extensive skiing, Zell am See and Kaprun have it all. Both resorts are well linked by bus and have access to the 130km Europa Sport Region. Easily accessible nursery slopes, a massive amount of intermediate slopes and some challenging black runs and off-piste areas, means there really is something for all abilities and disciplines in these resorts.

Dating back to medieval times, Zell am See is probably the most attractive lakeside ski resort in Austria. It has a sophisticated atmosphere with plenty of shopping and dining opportunities. The après ski can be lively but quieter, cosy options are also available. Neighbouring Kaprun, a 10 minute bus ride away, is situated at the foot of the Kitzsteinhorn glacier and although smaller, still offers a good selection of bars and restaurants in its rustic centre.

Two fantastic all-round resorts sharing a tremendous ski area continue to attract British visitors back

Hotel Schwebebahn, 8/2/08-15/2/08: sadly disappointing after last year's Neilson holiday at Hotel Crystallo in Katschberg.I found that charging 4 Euros for TAP WATER with the meal particularly galling.Drink prices very high too and food only good rather than excellent. Apparently there seems to have been cost-cutting on the catering side since last year. Our family room was excellent with interesting scenes of nursery slope and cable cars from the balcony. All in all the kids seemed to like the place just as much but they did not need a creche this time.Weather was variable and the nursery slope was slushy on departure.I would book earlier in the year next time.Oh,and dont expect to see a Neilson Rep.Saw him once to get the Ski Passes and no sight or sound of him thereafter.Dont book VIP skis like I did-no need for them and the hire shop gave us standard skis anyway.Still waiting for that refund, Neilson.
