Expert Advice
"Wide tree lined pistes, along with one of the most modern lift systems in Europe give you the widest variety of skiing for any age and level "

Bansko is the gateway to the Pirin mountain region and is certainly Bulgaria’s most up and coming ski resort, and one of the best for ski holidays in Bulgaria. It offers an irresistible combination of high mountains, ancient history and a modern infrastructure, and the Pirin Mountain National Park is on UNESCO’s List of World Heritage Sites. Its diverse, newly renovated, wide tree-lined pistes, along with one of the most modern lift systems in Europe give you the widest variety of skiing for any age and level, and therefore appeals to various ski holiday types. Accommodation is modern and of a standard that you would expect to see in a much more expensive ski resort. There are a number of local shops in Bansko and a trip to the old town to experience the traditional ‘Mehana’ is, quite simply, a unique destination to visit while on your ski holiday. All in all, Bansko offers a unique skiing, cultural and value for money winter ski holiday.

Important information
Again, money should be taken in Sterling to change locally. Travellers’ Cheques are subject to a 6% commission and credit cards 10% approximately. Visitors should change their money into local currency as sterling is not widely accepted in the bars and restaurants. Although the cost of living is reasonable, you should bring enough money for the unexpected as it may be difficult to get hold of extra funds although cash points are becoming more widely available. Credit card transactions are made in Bulgarian Leva (Lv) and commission can be expensive.
Visas
Holders of UK passports may enter Bulgaria without a visa for up to 30 days in any 6 month period. If you will exceed this duration of stay during your ski holiday in Bulgaria, please contact the Bulgarian Consulate before booking. Holders of full British passports do not need a visa to enter Romania. Holders of passports other than British must enquire at the Consular Department of the Bulgarian or Romanian Embassy respectively for their requirements before booking.

Pre-Bookable Ski Packs
You are strongly advised to prebook all ski pack items required before your ski holiday as prices in resort will be approximately double the pre-book price.

Bansko has some good runs, although the long gondola ride up every morning cuts into your boarding time, add that to a cathing a bus every morning and your wake up call needs to be very early.
Just come back and although nursing a broken shoulder 'on the last day' had some good board time + improved through the excellent advanced lessons 'jo'.
Generally the food in the hotels is poor even though ours was 4 star.
Prices are no cheaper than uk unless you walk miles out of the centre.
Reps were ok when you could manage to find one but very dull on the organised events.
Upon injuring shoulder reps had a good laugh but offered no help regarding aftercare or how to handle insurance claims ect.
If your going for the slopes this is for you,if your after an all round holiday look carefully

Had a fantastic holiday in Bansko. Skiing great for beginners or intermediates-good long blue runs, excellent ski school. Worth going to Hotel Strazhite if you can-it's comfortable & in a good location avoiding the huge building site that much of Bansko currently consists of. Rep v helpful. Food in hotel plentiful, food on slopes is junk food but at least reasonably priced.

The main problem the resort has it that the gondola has reached saturation in the mornings. The first hour & a half of each day was a race to get in the gondola queue before the hoards. With all the building that's going on in Bansko I don't see how the gondola system will be able to transport the additional people next winter.
