Practical Information
Below are some helpful bits of information for you to plan your holiday with.
CurrencyThe local currency is the Bulgarian Lev. We advise you take cash (sterling or dollars) as credit cards and Eurocheques are rarely accepted. Travellers cheques are subject to a 6% commission and credit cards to 10% approximately. You should change your money into local currency as sterling is not widely accepted in bars and restaurants though some places will
accept it. Try not to change too much money as it can be difficult to change back if you are left with any at the end of
your holiday. There are cash machines in both Bansko and Borovets.
Exchange rate£1 = 2.41 lev. (approximate at October 2007).
Time ZoneBulgaria is 2 hours ahead of GMT.
Calling HomeRemember to add 00 44 and to remove the ‘0’ from the start of the local area code.
ElectricityBulgaria operates on 220 or 240 volts AC, the same as the UK but plugs and sockets are different which means you’ll need a continental adaptor.
Ski PacksWe strongly recommend you pre-book all ski pack items required as the prices in resort are considerably more than the
pre-bookable prices.
A Bulgarian CustomThe Bulgarians nod their heads sideways, the opposite way to the British, when they agree or find what you’re saying interesting.
