You’ll be more at home in a horse and cart than a car in purpose-built Avoriaz. A compact, traffic free haven for skiers, perched high in the mountains of the huge ‘Portes Du Soleil’ ski area – which spreads over eight resorts and crosses the border into Switzerland. Being so high, Avoriaz enjoys a good snow record, an enviable ski holiday location in this extensive and well linked ski area and fantastic board parks all within easy reach. The après-ski scene generates a good atmosphere in the resort but your choice while on your si holiday is limited to a few bars. This is a skiers and boarders heaven, with a great snowy playground at your feet, but little else if snow sports are not your thing.
This is a perfect self drive destination - it's one of the most northerly of the main French resorts and is therefore one of the shorter drives at around a 9.5 hours from Calais. There is plenty of car parking - all hidden away in underground garages, with everything conveniently located.
