Bardonecchia for ski holidays is best described as a taste of real, modern Italy coupled with an excellent ski area. It’s one of those places in the Alps where you can experience both a working, bustling town and great skiing.

As the furore of the Winter Olympics dies down, the legacy of the event is evident in the fantastic purpose built accommodation, a perfectly shaped half pipe & a brand new terrain park. You can ride and ski the same runs as the Olympians, not to mention the ever improving lift systems. Far from being an experts only ski holiday venue, Bardonecchia has a caring ski school that is passionate about teaching those first turns on skis.

With a range of board options you can choose the convenience of a half board hotel each evening, or the excellent slopeside apartments and head for the town in the evening with its choice of bars serving delicious aperitivos followed by good value restaurants.

As intermediate skiers with many years experience my family and I went to Bardonecchia in February '09 as a last minute cheap deal and so didn't know what to expect; but we were pleasantly surprised. The skiing proved less clallenging and more limited than what we were used to; but the ancient town with all its fascinating shops, low priced restaurants and quaint architecture, together with a welcome from the locals that makes France seem like a tomb, left us with a rosy glow that will undoubtedly draw us back. It was a complete holiday rather than just a frantic race up and down various valleys, which in other years always left us feeling on our return home that we needed another holiday!
Highly recommended for those who want a minimum of hassle, lots of distraction and maximum relaxation
