Åre

Åre is a unique resort, receiving the worldwide attention it deserves since hosting the 2007 World Championships. The resort stretches 10km along a frozen lake and enjoys a beautiful setting amid low sweeping mountains and snow-covered forests. The resort has four small centres and ski areas each suited to different holiday needs. This is where you can really experience the thrill of winter activities. Imagine yourself gliding along snowy trails in a sled drawn by huskies or racing across a frozen lake on your own snowmobile.

Day Trips To Trondheim

Traditional and attractive, Åre village offers quaint shops and great restaurants, while Årebjornen and Duved are much smaller with a couple of bars and restaurants and a supermarket. Tegefjall has a small convenience store, bar and ski shop. Nightlife, known as ‘after ski’ in Sweden, tends to be quite low key and relaxed during the week but at weekends, Åre village really livens up and offers a good choice of bars and nightclubs whether it’s cocktails or live bands you’re looking for. All four bases offer a superb range of non-ski winter activities.

FAMILY WEEKS IN ÅREBJORNEN
Årebjornen is the most family-focused ski area in the resort and therefore the ideal place to host special ‘Family Weeks’ in January and March (weeks beginning 6th, 13th, 20th and 27th January, 23rd and 30th March 2008). During these weeks, the resort organises a daily programme packed with fun activities, many at no cost. Morning skiing for parents while supervised breakfast and games are provided for children, torchlit processions, BBQs, treasure hunts and après-ski activities.

FESTIVE FUN
During Christmas week, the resort and some of the hotels organise special festive activities. Santa Claus, his helpers and his reindeer can be seen on the slopes and make an appearance in the village square. New Year is also a great time to be in resort with lots of activities on and off the slopes, and many properties offering special celebration meals on New Year’s Eve.

THE ULTIMATE ADRENALINE RUSH
Hanging 90 metres up in the air and reaching speeds of up to 100km/hr, Åre’s new Zip Line ensures you’ll feel the adrenaline pump! The course soars high on the mountain above Åre village and offers breathtaking views.

TANNFORSEN FROZEN WATERFALL & ICE CAVES
A short scenic bus ride to Tannforsen, followed by a gentle stroll along the river to Europe’s largest frozen waterfall where you’ll find a magical ice cave situated underneath.

SNOWMOBILING SAFARI
For an adrenaline injection, join this snowmobiling safari from Åre or Duved village, zipping across the frozen lake and via snow tracks to the peak of the mountain opposite where you’ll be amazed by the stunning views.
