Neilson Yachts In Croatia The Dalmatian Coast runs in a predominantly north west - south east direction and is a fantastic sailing area. The attractive coastline is characterised by a multitude of islands, crystal clear water, picturesque villages and historic towns.

Our turnaround base on the island of Korcula is perfectly positioned to explore this beautiful region. The sailing area around the Dalmatian Coast offers longer passages between each port with plenty of scenic cruising. To the north is the island of Hvar and the beautiful city of Split. The sailing legs in the north are longer and suited to more experienced sailors. In the south the main attraction for most people is Dubrovnik - a fascinating city with its old walled town and bustling, cosmopolitain atmosphere.

The area is blessed with steady breezes. The breezes, like most if the Mediterranean are thermally generated sea breezes. This means that mornings generally have light breezes, starting from calm at sunrise building up to steady force 4's and 5's in the afternoon.

Due to the complicated topography and the local Bora wind often kicking in, this breeze can occassionally become stronger through certain channels between the islands or sometimes disappear completely. With the occasional fresh breezes and passages between islands and the mainland, we would recommend the Dalmatian sailing area for those who have some experience of sailing or for confident, adventurous beginners.

Had 343 in June 2007 and holiday was difficult to fault. Lead crew excellent, boat was spotless. Long transfer to Lumbarda but last section by boat breaks it up. Area we sailed in was beautiful and I rank this holiday as one of our best ever. I am coming back in June 2008..I think that says it all.
