The Greek Ionian

The Ionian is one of the Mediterranean's most popular yachting destinations with gentle breezes and a scattering of picturesque islands and sheltered harbours offering the perfect introduction to sailing. The Southern Ionian is ideal for the less experienced sailor due to its sheltered waters and generally shorter routes, whilst the Northern Ionian offers more adventurous sailing with longer passages, less crowded waters and steady breezes.

The Retreat

Located in a corner of rare natural beauty with tiny coves, green hills and secluded beaches, the aptly named Retreat offers an idyllic base for your shorebased week.

Clinging to the side of a tree-covered coastal hillside, the various buildings are linked by steps and paths leading down to the shores of the Ionian. A collection of beaches forms the edge of our watersports area and a shallow sand bar makes it possible to wade across to the tiny uninhabited island of Mourtemeno. Throughout the hotel grounds, great attention has been paid to landscaping with an abundance of flowers and trees adding to the natural beauty of the setting.

Accommodation during your week ashore

Rooms are either in the main hotel or in villa style garden rooms. All are of a good standard with air conditioning, fridge, direct dial telephone, TV, safety deposit box, hairdryer, ensuite shower and balcony or small terrace, the majority with a sea view.
There is a choice of twin, double and triple rooms and a selection of interconnecting rooms for families. All are large enough to take a cot. Rooms in the main building are close to the restaurant and reception, whilst the garden rooms offer a more peaceful and private setting.
Accommodation is linked to other areas of The Retreat by a series of steps and pathways.

Facilities

The hotel facilities include a reception with small outdoor terrace and lounge area. Stairs lead to a small shop, children’s play area and restaurant. The restaurant is split over two levels, with impressive views over the sailing area.
On the next level is the pool bar and swimming pool with terrace, separate pool for younger children, sun loungers and shaded area. From here, the Sea Urchins crèche, boules, table tennis, volleyball court and tennis courts can be accessed.  From the pool, there are approximately 100 steps down to the waterfront.

What an amazing week! We were all a little nervous this being our first sailing holiday with 2 children under 4, Grandma and a pregnant mum, but thanks to the fabulous boat, setting, and most importantly Jimmy, Matt and Steve, our lead crew, who were so friendly, helpful and just generally great they ensured we had the most fabulous week - one to be repeated asap.
