Your Experience
When booking a Flotilla, Stay and Sail or Bareboat holiday, we
ask you to rate your level of experience. This is a critical part of
your booking information, as it helps us to ensure you enjoy an
appropriate holiday. This guide helps you determine whether you’re ready
to set sail, or if you need some tuition first. If in any doubt about
your experience levels, please call our advisors for further
information.
- Experienced sailors - Y3
- Sailed before but limited mileage - Y2
- Limited or no experience - Y1
Bareboat - Experience level - Y3
We require two persons aged 18 or over aboard each boat to have
plenty of sailing experience, having been in charge of a sailing vessel
for several cruises, possibly on previous flotilla holidays. They must
both be comfortable sailing in a range of conditions. If this level of
experience cannot be satisfied, a Flotilla holiday may be more
appropriate.
Flotilla - Experience level - Y2
We require two persons aged 18 or over aboard each boat to have
several days’ active experience in charge of a yacht. This experience
may have been on a previous holiday, though both sailors should have had
time in charge. If this level of experience cannot be satisfied, a Stay
and Sail holiday, coupled with a training course in week one, may be
more appropriate.
Stay and Sail - Experience level - Y1
If yacht training courses are to be completed during week one:
All we ask is that two people aboard each boat are 18 or over, have a
reasonable level of fitness and are keen to learn. If training is not to
be completed during week one: We ask two people to have experience as
for a Flotilla holiday (see above).
One week Learn to Sail - Experience level - Y1
The introduction to Yachting course is a compulsory element of this holiday. At least two people aboard
each yacht aged 18 or over must complete this course.
