Rauris activities
The small village of Rauris has a particularly attractive church and
main street lined with cafés, bars, restaurants and a few shops
including two mini-markets. Although Rauris does not claim to be the
liveliest resort, there are several bars to choose from including some
lively umbrella bars which fill as the slopes empty. Non-skiers will
appreciate the great choice of non-ski activities on offer, plus
various excursions.
Sledding Fun
Flying down towards
the village on a groomed toboggan run just has to be done. The lift is
open from 7am until 8.30pm - floodlit in the evenings for après-ski fun.
Explore Off the Beaten Track
Escape
the crowds on snowshoes and explore the beautiful winter landscapes
surrounding Rauris. The resort offers weekly guided tours or you can
hire a guide in resort.
Winter Hilking
Rauris provides
no less than 35km of cleared walking trails in and around the National
Park surrounding Rauris. These tranquil walks provide fantastic scenic
views of the pristine countryside and a great chance to spot local
wildlife. Make sure you stop in at one of the mountain inns dotted along
the trails for a warming drink or two.
Adventurous Ice Climbing
For
those with strong nerves, ice climbing is possible on some spectacular
frozen waterfalls in the valleys close to Rauris. Lessons and guiding is
available from an instructor based in Rauris.
Head off for the Day
For
non-skiers or anyone wanting a day off the slopes, Rauris is close to
some interesting places for day excursions. The local schnapps
distillery and microbrewery in the heart of the Hohe Tauern National
Park is a short drive away and the beautiful, historic city of Salzburg
is just over an hour’s drive away.
Horse Drawn Sleigh Rides
Snuggled
warm under lots of blankets, take a delightful horse-drawn sleigh ride
through the stunning national park scenery surrounding Rauris.
