What to expect
Day 1
Just after you get to resort you’ll be invited to a ‘Snow Brief’ – make sure you go. Your Neilson Rep will share all the information you need about the resort, lessons and apres ski with you and arrange a time to meet at the rental shop to be fitted with your equipment.
Day 2
Meet your instructor and fellow beginners at the designated meeting point. Lessons begin immediately on very gentle slopes. Depending on what time of day your lessons take place, you will be free to spend the afternoon or morning with your friends/family and practice.
Days 3-6
As the week progresses, your instructor will teach you how to control your speed and turn in both directions. You will progress to longer, possibly steeper, and more interesting runs and learn how to use different types of ski lifts. By the end of the week you will have discovered thigh muscles you never knew you had, new friends, laughed a lot and conquered a skill that might just become an obsession like it has for us.
What You’ll Need
Clothing
Being warm, dry and comfortable on the slopes is fundamental to your enjoyment. Hire, borrow or buy some key items before you travel. For a full list of ‘what to pack’ see our before you go page.
Helmets
We strongly recommend that everyone wears a helmet to keep safe - this is especially important for children. In some resorts helmet hire is included when you pre-book a ski pack or equipment.
Insurance
A travel insurance policy that covers winter sports is essential. These activities usually carry a higher premium so make sure you check your policy before you leave the UK.
A Bit of Fitness
You don’t have to be an athlete to go on a ski holiday but preparing yourself by doing some exercise before you go will make your first time on snow much more enjoyable.
Lift pass, equipment & tuition
Be sure to add a Complete Beginner Ski or Snowboard pack to your booking – then everything will be reserved and ready for your arrival.
