Skiing with children
They say it’s best to start young and many children take to skiing like ducks to water. Children get so much enjoyment from playing and learning in the snow.
Family resorts
Some ski resorts are better suited to families than others, so we've highlighted the ones that offer the vital ingredients for a perfect family ski holiday because of:
- Family friendly accommodation
- Child-friendly ski areas
- First rate children’s ski school and childcare facilities
- A variety of suitable children’s activities both on and off the snow
Family friendly resorts are highlighted throughout our
website, just look out for the Family Friendly logo on the resort page or for our top 10, check out our Family resorts page.
Short transfers
Long journeys can mean tired and irritable children and more demands on mum and dad. We’ve highlighted resorts with short transfer times of 2 hours or less from the airport to resort. Look for the Short Transfer symbol on resort pages.
First time on skis
To ensure your family love affair with skiing gets off to the best possible start, we’ve sought out the perfect beginner friendly resorts where you’re guaranteed an ideal learning environment for all members of the family. You can learn in just about any resort but for our top recommended beginner resorts, have a look at our beginners page.
Children’s group ski lessons
The majority of ski schools offer a dedicated children’s ski school with qualified instructors experienced in teaching children. Lesson durations and days vary which is why we offer pre-bookable children’s ski school places in the majority of our resorts – the Ski Essentials information on our resort pages for more information.
Skiing for younger children
Many resorts offer a skiing kindergarten for children as young as 3
years. They employ specially trained instructors to encourage them to
have fun and play in the snow rather than teaching them in long,
structured lessons.
Normally, there is a dedicated ski area with special mini-lifts,
outdoor games and fun obstacles. Many ski kindergartens also offer an
indoor area for when children become tired or cold.
Have a look at the Ski Essentials link on the resort pages to see
where you can pre-book this service. For children under 5 years, we
recommend you book shorter duration ski kindergarten sessions to begin
with rather than full day sessions until you are sure your child will
enjoy the sport.
Reserving Your Child’s Place
We offer pre-bookable skiing kindergarten places in many of our resorts. In other resorts, places can be reserved in advance by contacting the ski kindergarten directly. Details about ski kindergartens including opening hours, guideline prices and contact details are provided on the Family Information tabs on the resort pages.
Your children's safety on the slopes
We want your family to have fun on our holidays, but we also want you
to be safe. That's why we include a helmet in child equipment hire in
virtually all of our resorts. And now that every professional skier and
snowboarder is wearing one, they'll be itching to look their heroes!
Make sure your child has goggles or sunglasses and a high factor sunscreen to protect them from the sun’s powerful rays reflected from the snow.
Several thin layers of clothing under a waterproof one-piece suit acts as better insulator than one thick layer.
