For a peaceful night's sleep, postcard-like views and great value, the Gästehaus Bichler is an excellent choice. It sits in the picturesque and wonderfully Austrian hamlet of Pirchmoos, just a 5 minute bus ride (the stop is 30m from  the guesthouse) or a 15-20 minute walk from the centre of Söll and the nearest ski lifts.

The rooms are all simple but very comfortable with ensuite bathrooms, and most with balconies to enjoy the far-reaching views - an idyllic way to wake up every morning.

Start each day with a filling and nutritious continental breakfast in the dedicated breakfast room. And after a day on the slopes and some fun après in Söll, head back to the pension and relax in the living room with its cable TV.

A ski storage room and boot drying facilities make it easy and hassle free to get out and hit the slopes in the mornings.

About the resort...

Söll sits in a woody valley, one of many in the impressive 284km Ski Welt area in Austria. It's an impossibly pretty area with rolling mountains, snow-clad trees and chocolate-box buildings. Head to the top of the distinctive dome-shaped peak of the Hohe Salve mountain for some uninterrupted views across the craggy Wilder Kaiser ridges.

Intermediates, in particular, will love Söll as there are some many cruising slopes with challenging sections. That's not to say that beginners are left out; the foot of the slopes in Söll is made for novices thanks to a huge expanse of wide open, gently sloping runs.

The village is very traditional with an onion-domed church and more chocolate-box buildings. Over 284km of pistes, 90 hi-speed lifts and 81rustic Alpine huts and après bars (that's about one every 3km) are waiting for you in this picture postcard area.

The après here is really buzzing après and gets going from about 3pm. It's a great atmosphere with hi-energy, fun Europop and plenty of dancing in ski boots!

Food and drink

It's a good, hearty continental breakfast at the Bichler. Set yourself up for a day in the seemingly never-ending Ski Welt ski area with breads, jams, healthy (and not so healthy) cereals along with plenty of tea, coffee and fruit juices.

In the evenings, head out into Söll and sample the many restaurants offering local and international cuisine.

The Bichler's Austrian twin rooms are simple and comfortable with Austrian twin beds, free Wi-Fi and an ensuite with shower and wc. Most rooms also have a balcony with superb views out across the Wilderkaiser mountain range.

There's also a single room which has a washbasin in the room and a separate private shower and wc along the corridor.
