This is one of our best chalets as it has all the qualities needed for a relaxing, convenient ski break. The large open-plan lounge and dining area has light pouring in from all sides as well as views out towards the seemingly endless mountain range that is the French Alps.
If you're looking for a peaceful place to stay, this is the chalet for you. You're away from the resort hustle and nightlife up in the Altiport area, but still only around a 10-15 minute walk from the nearest bar. The nearest ski slope is much closer though, only 100m away. It's a blue run too so even beginners at the end of their first week will be able to use it. Complete novices will need to walk the 400m to get the ski bus to the Bergers area and ski school meeting point.
The comfortable leather sofas arranged around the large open fire in the lounge really sets the mood, particularly when you have a slice of freshly baked cake in your hand after a day on the mountain. Alternatively, take your cake out to the large wrap-around balcony and savour the flavour whilst taking in the postcard-like views.

About the resort
Located on a slightly sloping plateau at the foot of a very impressive mountain, Alpe d'Huez is a real mix of old and new. From the slopes, it's really quite pretty to look at with its mostly low-rise buildings and distinct districts. There's easy access to the slopes from all areas of the resort thanks to a well thought out lift system.
Many resorts claim to be an ‘all-rounder' but in Alpe d'Huez's case, it really is. 238km of varied slopes sees to that; two snow parks, wide-open beginner slopes and some pretty crazy black runs including one that's accessed through a tunnel and another that's the longest in Europe at 17kms!
Alpe d'Huez has a higher than average amount of sunny days per year than most ski resorts. Work your tan at one of the many mountain restaurants whilst enjoying a delicious Vin Chaud and a welcome leg rest.
As the slopes comes to a close, the resort keeps going with a huge array of nightlife. Choose from small little family-run restaurants, cosy mountain pubs or night-clubs to dance the night away in.
Area size: 238km covered on standard lift pass
Linked resorts: Not linked but your lift pass covers one days' skiing in Les Deux Alpes, Montgenèvre, Puy St Vincent or Serre Chevalier. Transport is not included.
Resort altitude: 1860m
Skiing altitude: 1860m to 3320m
Number of runs: 114
Range of runs: 32% green, 29% blue, 27% red and 12% black
Our chalet board basis is designed for skiers and boarders. Breakfast is a fairly extensive affair with cooked and continental options every day. Your daily afternoon tea of freshly baked cakes and biscuits will be waiting for you when you come in from the slopes.
Evening meals are a three-course set-menu with regionally inspired dishes and free-flowing wine throughout the week, all followed by fresh coffee.
We provide evening meals on six nights a week to leave you free to head out and explore the resort on one evening. For shorter holidays over New Year 2016/17, you still have one night free to explore the resort and local cuisine.
All of the rooms in the Edelweiss are ensuite and a good size too. There are six twins and one triple room here. Each has a good amount of storage, plenty of nice little mountain touches and some come with a balcony.
