The Amerikan has a rich history in Livigno and, funnily enough, its roots in America. It has recently been completely refurbished to evolve into an incredibly stylish, convenient hotel. Unique features such as headboard art with imagery from the local area in the bedrooms and an environmentally friendly swimming pool add to the Amerikan's charm.

Walk out of the hotel and the No. 10 Amerikan lift is right there, ready for you to hit the slopes and explore this wonderful, rolling ski area. It's a bit further to the centre of Livigno, but that just means that you're in for a restful night's sleep.

The emphasis at the Amerikan really is on comfort and relaxation. The freshly-prepared meals, the beautiful spa and comfort of the rooms all combine with excellent and attentive service to ensure you have the best holiday possible.

About the resort

Livigno is a charming, traditional alpine village with a friendly and cosmopolitan vibe right on the Swiss border. It's a vibrant place that's still a bit of a secret to many. It's a resort that has something to please everyone, so you'd better plan your visit before the secret gets out!

The resort itself sits on the valley floor with the ski runs on either side of the town. Even though the 115km runs doesn't sound like much, there's tons to do here. It's more like North America in that you can pretty much ski or snowboard anywhere.

Beginners will be kept happy thanks to the excellent English speaking ski schools while intermediates will relish the large number of blue and red runs. On top of that, the pedestrian centre consists of three kilometres of bars, restaurants and duty-free shops for when you're not carving up the slopes.

The lively après-ski scene suits many tastes. You'll find traditional Italian restaurants serving inexpensive local cuisine, fantastic pizzerias and rockin' bars and pubs for something a bit more exciting. Try Marcos and Daphne's pub for a pint of Guinness, or dance the night away in the resort nightclubs. And of course there's the duty-free shopping - you'll definitely want to leave room in your suitcase on the way out!

This is a spa with a conscience. As well as the whirlpool, sauna, bio sauna, Turkish bath, emotion shower and relaxation area, the Amerikan has an eco-friendly swimming pool.

It's a unique salt water electrolysis swimming pool treated with traditional sea salt that allows a natural disinfection making the biological clean water healthy and crystal clear without using chemicals such as chlorine.

You can also book yourself in for a relaxing massage or beauty treatments, but there's a local charge for these.

Food and drink

To match the rest of the Amerikan's luxuries, the chefs here will prepare fresh Valtellinese regional specialities as well as classic Italian dishes. The half board meals include an extensive buffet breakfast and four-course evening meal with a salad buffet and a choice of starter, main and dessert. Your Christmas & New Year Gala meals are included for you too.

The 39 rooms are all very stylishly designed (the owner's wife is an interior designer). Choose from comfort or superior rooms, both of which offer superb comfort and style. All rooms have a balcony, satellite TV, radio, free Wi-Fi and a bathroom with a bath or shower, hairdryer and wc.

The centrepiece of the larger superior rooms are headboards made in to art pieces with either thoughtful quotes or pictures of parts of Livigno. Some superior rooms can sleep up to four with a double bed and some very cool and comfortable bunks. guests choosing these rooms also receive a welcome drink on arrival.
