1. Work out your stance
First things first, you need to work our whether you’re goofy or regular. No, we’re not talking personality; this is about which foot you lead with on your snowboard.
If you ride with your left foot in front and your right foot behind, you’re regular. If you prefer your right foot in front and your left foot behind, you’re goofy. Neither has any advantage over the other, it’s just down to personal preference.
There’s a couple of easy ways to work out your stance before you even strap onto on a snowboard. The first is to stand on both feet and get a friend to give you a surprise – but gentle – push from behind. Whichever foot you naturally step forward with first should be your leading foot at the front of your snowboard. You could also notice which foot you start with when climbing stairs. This should be the foot that goes at the back of your snowboard.
