The contemporary yet elegant Hotel Lion Borovets makes the most of its calming location amidst the pine forest. The hotel runs a regular shuttle bus to the slopes so you have peace and quiet but are still well-connected. Relaxing public areas include an open fire burning in the cosy lounge and a good size bar for a well-earned drink.

Don't miss checking out the excellent spa facilities which has an indoor pool, two saunas and hot tubs. The spa has also been refurbished recently with a new steam bath and funky relaxation area.

And when you're not doing that - or actually on the slopes - you can try out the traditional à la carte ‘Mehana' (tavern), or have a relaxing drink at the cocktail bar.

About the resort

Borovets is a bustling resort sat amongst the stunningly gorgeous pine forests of the Rila Mountains. It's particularly well-suited to beginners, improvers and families as it has wide-open slopes, fantastic coaching from friendly, English-speaking instructors and a dedicated kids ski area. There's also night skiing if you don't get your fill during the day.

Off the mountain, the resort is fairly compact and has two main pedestrianised areas that are jam-packed with cafés, bars, live music venues, tourist shops and more. It's quite the bustling marketplace.

You can't come to Bulgaria without trying an evening meal in a Mehana - a traditional Bulgarian tavern with fantastic local food and entertainment. Also, don't miss taking a traditional horse and cart trip around the resort, or head into the nearby town of Samokov for a taste of authentic Bulgaria - all for incredible value.
