Floating in the warm, turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean, Mauritius is the island that looks effortlessly fabulous. White beaches, swaying palms, and water so clear it draws you right in - it’s the island where paradise stops being a cliché and starts being your morning view.
But don’t be fooled by the chilled-out vibe. Mauritius has a playful streak.
For guests who love their luxury with an active twist, Neilson x The Ravenala Attitude is made to impress. Tennis and pickleball on sunlit courts, a whole lagoon of watersports - from sunrise paddle boarding to kayaking above colourful reefs, and a gentle sail carried along by those warm island breezes. And when it’s time to roam, you can walk, run or grab a bike and discover the sugarcane fields, hidden coves and beachy little pit stops. Good Energy never looked this good.
Mauritius isn’t just gorgeous, it’s fascinating. Once home to the legendary dodo and surrounded by one of the world’s largest coral reefs, its lagoons stay calm, clear and impossibly blue. And just off the island's southwest tip, the famous underwater waterfall illusion creates a mesmerising cascade beneath the waves. A little wonder goes a long way here.

When to go
Mauritius is where endless sunshine meets effortless style. Floating in the Indian Ocean, just east of Madagascar, this lush island is blessed with a warm, subtropical climate that whispers “come on in” year-round.
From November to April, summer brings golden days and balmy evenings - the kind that melt into cocktails by the shore. From May to September, the trade winds sweep in a gentler, drier season, perfect for sailing, spa days, and long, lazy lunches.
Temperatures are typically 20–22°C in winter, climbing to a dreamy 30°C in summer. Whatever the month, Mauritius delivers pure barefoot luxury under a tropical sun
Activities to do on your Mauritius holiday
Mauritius is made for feel-good action. The lagoon’s shallow, crystal-clear waters and steady island breezes set the stage for cat sailing and effortless, all-day paddle boarding - smooth, calm and perfect for snorkelling the abundant reef spots right on your doorstep.
Prefer to stay on solid ground? The island delivers in style. Sunlit tennis and pickleball courts serve up superb playing conditions, whether you’re chasing a friendly rally or sharpening your game with something a little more competitive. Add in easy coastal exploring on e-bikes and a next-level fitness offering, from restorative holistic sessions to high-intensity workouts and you’ve got a hit of active luxury with some serious Good Energy.
CULTURE
Mauritius is a true rainbow nation, shaped by centuries of cultures living side by side and creating a wonderfully diverse island identity. It’s often named one of the most peaceful places on earth, and the atmosphere is exactly what you’d hope for: friendly, welcoming and beautifully laid-back.
Community runs deep, with a strong sense of belonging and family woven into everyday life. English is the official language here, but day-to-day, you’ll hear far more French. A little “bonjour” or “merci” goes a long way here, earns you instant brownie points, and the locals appreciate the effort.
Immerse yourself in the island’s history, from the UNESCO-listed Le Morne Brabant, a dramatic volcanic peak rising straight from the lagoon, rich with stories of Mauritius’ past, to the upbeat capital of Port Louis. Walk the vibrant streets lined with elegant colonial architecture, and more museums than you can shake a coconut at.
eating like a local
Mauritian cuisine is a delicious fusion of cultures, a vibrant mix of French, Indian, Chinese, African and Creole influences that makes every meal feel as colourful and characterful as the island itself.
The street-food scene is huge here, serving up bold, spicy favourites that locals swear by. Don’t miss a warm dholl puri stuffed with split peas and chutney, or a bowl of comforting boulettes (Mauritian dumplings). And for a quick tropical fix, the local food stands serve fresh pineapple and just-cracked coconuts - pure island sunshine on a stick.
Wherever you wander - beach shacks, markets or elegant restaurants - you’re in for a sensory adventure filled with fresh flavour, island flair and, of course, a local cane-rum cocktail or two to finish things off in style.
how to get to Mauritius
Getting to Mauritius from the UK is easier than you might think. You can fly from London Gatwick straight into the beautifully named Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport (MRU), a welcome that already feels a bit exotic.
From there, it’s just an easy hour to the Beach Club, thanks to the island being small, perfectly formed and wonderfully simple to navigate.
The time difference is a very manageable three hours ahead of the UK, and flight times are around 12 hours, depending on whether you go direct or opt for indirect flights. Long haul, yes - but the moment you step into that warm island air, it's worth every mile.
