The Gentiana is one of the best located hotels in Tignes Le Lac. A ski slope runs right past the hotel and you're also close to the resort nightlife. It's a good choice for couples and groups wanting to make the most of Tignes. It's definitely a firm favourite amongst Neilson guests, and the Chairman of Neilson too!
You can be on the slopes in seconds and the lifts are just 100m away. Plus there are resort shops, bars and restaurants are just a five minute stroll away.
The hotel has a really nice feel. You're guaranteed a warm and friendly welcome from the owners Serge and Nadia. He's a real character and wants nothing more than for you to have a great holiday. His hotel is set up for exactly that as there's a small pool and wellness area to relax in and rest your legs.
The food is very good too and exactly what you need before and after a day on the slopes of this incredible area. The Gentiana is definitely worth a stay and a good example of what a ski hotel should be.

About the resort
Tignes is one of the most snowsure resorts in Europe. It's 2100m up in the high Tarantaise area of the French Alps where the skiing tops out at a breathless 3456m. It also happens to have some of the most exciting and challenging terrain in the world.
The resort is split in to two villages; Le Lac nestles on the shores of a frozen lake with beautiful views of Toviére mountain and the Grande Motte glacier. It's an ideal springboard into the massive Espace Killy ski area and has a good après-ski scene too. Val Claret sits around the other side of the lake at the bottom of the Grande Motte glacier and is probably the livelier of the two resorts.
It forms one half of the vast 300km Espace Killy area and it's just a quick drop over the hill (and a slightly eye-watering chairlift ride) into neighbouring Val d'Isère. The area suits all levels of skier and snowboarder, but intermediates and advanced levels won't be able to stop grinning as it was seemingly carved with them in mind!
It's not just on the mountain where the smiles happen. Try ice diving under the frozen lake, ice karting on the frozen lake or paragliding over the frozen lake. For something a bit more laid back, head to the Lagon Aqua and Well-being Centre. It has swimming pools, water slides, hot tubs, saunas - basically everything you need to help you unwind or fill an afternoon off the slopes.
