Off the beaten track, on the island of Lemnos, Portomyrina Palace is perfectly situated. It's heaven for mountain bikers and sailors. The surrounding hillsides are full of trails to explore and the wind blows consistently; sailors and windsurfers will be in their element.
The journey from the airport to the beach at Portomyrina Palace takes just 30 minutes. In no time at all you'll be relaxing with a drink and dipping your toes in the 50-metre pool.
The pool bar has a unique design with a canopied roof shading you from the sun. It's a great place to chat over the day's adventures. Stop by for a sundowner and catch the sun setting over the pool.
Dinghy sailing, windsurfing, kayaking, stand up paddle boarding, water skiing and wakeboarding are all inclusive water sports, so there's nothing to stop you having a go and joining in with the on the water fun!
The bay is big (stretching up to one kilometre offshore and the whole width of the bay) and the water lovely and clear. With stronger winds in the morning, sailors and windsurfers will have a great start to their day. In the afternoon, conditions tend to be better for beginner sailors and windsurfers. There's tuition for all levels with RYA Start Sailing and Basic Skills together with clinics, racing and regattas. For windsurfers there's tuition available up to intermediate planing level.
As Lemnos is a windy island with winds that are predominately cross onshore it's not always the best for water skiing and wakeboarding. That said, there are still plenty of days when the sea is calm and the conditions are great.
Most of the day you can head out on a stand up paddle board or kayak. Paddle over to the trio of large rocks in the bay. There are plenty of nooks and crannies to explore and the sea is beautifully clear, so it's well worth taking snorkelling kit along too. We can also arrange kitesurfing lessons at a nearby beach (approx. 30 minutes away) for an additional £275 per person (please note that the kitesurf school we use closes on 1 October).
Windsurfing: a range of beginner, intermediate (160-130 litres) and shortboards from manufacturers Starboard, Fanatic and RRD. Dino rigs for children (2m-4.5m); start rigs for beginners (2.5m / 3.5m / 4.5m); adult rigs (4m - 8.2m)
Dinghy sailing: Laser Pico; Laser 1; Laser Bahia; Laser Dart 16; Topper Omega
Water skiing and wakeboarding: Ski Nautique 206 and 216 and a range of skis, boards, mono skis and wake skates.
Kayaking and stand up paddle boarding: Gemini single and double sit on top kayaks; Red Paddle Co stand up paddle boards (10'8") and XXL stand up paddle board (8 man).
Cross on-shore wind tends to be stronger in the morning, often reaching Force 4+ before dropping off in the afternoon. The typical wind force ranges from 2-6, with the most consistent conditions in July and August.
Back on land the inclusive activities include mountain biking, tennis and fitness classes including bootcamp, circuits, Zumba and stretch.
The wild and unspoilt landscape is crammed with mountain bike trails. Set off on a guided ride to tackle the ascents and be rewarded with the rush of epic off road descents. If that's not for you, there are plenty of easy going rides, exploring local villages and olive groves. If you're looking for a challenge, you'll enjoy the ride out to the radio masts and the mainly off-road descent from the high point of 324m. At the other end of the adrenaline scale there's a leisurely ride to Myrina and the castle.
The three astro tennis courts are all floodlit and our coaches offer a variety of classes so you can take advantage, whatever your age or ability level. Outdoor fitness and yoga with a cooling sea breeze and sea views will keep you coming back for more and with a wide range of classes, there's simply no excuses.
Swimming lessons (available for a supplement) in the 50m pool for all ages and abilities are a great way to build confidence or improve technique.
Mountain bikes: TREK X Caliber 7 and 9 in a range of sizes (15”, 17”, 19”, 21”).
If you've got cycling shoes with cleats and are planning on bringing them with you, we advise that you should also bring your own pedals. That way, they are guaranteed to fit.
Tennis: a selection of adult and child rackets from Babolat
Treat yourself with a visit to the spa. From top to toe, our therapists offer a full range of treatments. There's an adult-only indoor pool, four treatment rooms (including one just for couples) and a relaxation and manicure area.
If you know you'll definitely be using the spa, it's worth pre-booking a spa package and taking advantage of savings on the resort prices. Use of facilities is free, treatments will be charged to your room.
Your holiday includes club board meals – that's your breakfast and lunch every day plus four evening meals a week. You can eat outdoors under the shade of olive trees, escape the sun and retreat to the indoor restaurant or dine in adult-only company if you wish to.
At the end of the day, head to the pool bar, choose from our delicious cocktail menu and settle back to catch one of the sunsets.
Your inclusive evening meals are on the following days in 2020:

There's a bright and sunny feel to the garden rooms. Your room will be on the ground or first floor of small whitewashed buildings with terracotta roofs (both ground and first floor have steps to access the room). Close to the pool and beach, all have a small balcony or a terrace which opens onto the lawns. Garden room types include 'economy' and 'club' twin, double and interconnecting rooms and suites.
There are also rooms in the main hotel, these rooms are close to the tennis courts, restaurant and spa. Depending on the type of room you choose, you will have views across the bay or surrounding hillside. Hotel rooms include 'economy' twin; 'club' twin, double and interconnecting; 'premium' triple and interconnecting; and suites.
It's great for families, with an easy, short 30-minute transfer, lots of wide open spaces, and even a castle to explore in the local village. Our youngest guests will be well catered for with the Starfish crèche for babies from four to 23 months (available for a supplement) and our inclusive Neilson run kids' clubs (2-17 years). There's also a small children's pool, play area, cots, baby baths, buggies and a 24-hour baby room. Make sure your children don't miss out, pre-book before you go to secure a space in the club they want.
Walk up to Myrina (the capital of Lemnos), a 15 minute stroll away. Check out the Venetian castle and play a traditional game of backgammon at the Castle Bar. Enjoy spectacular views and equally spectacular cocktails.
Hire a car and explore little Greek villages, be sure not to miss the salt lakes where (depending when you visit) you may also spot pink flamingos.
Relax on a traditionally built Greek boat and discover the coastline of Lemnos. There's a choice of excursions which are bookable locally. A half day coastal cruise gives you the opportunity to enjoy the island scenery during the day, whilst the sunset cruise is the ideal way to unwind after a day of activities.
