Baqueira Beret

Baqueira (pronounced Bakira) in Spain is off the beaten track in the ski world, but that's a good thing as it's still largely undiscovered.

This means 157kms of quiet, uncrowded slopes, plenty of places to sit for lunch and very special, laid-back feel - just what you'd expect from a ski holiday in Spain.

With a skiing altitude of 1500 to 2510m, this is the perfect resort for intermediate and advanced skiers and boarders. The 78 well-manicured pistes and miles of ultra-enticing freeride areas are just waiting to be explored.

And this being Spain, the après-ski is just as important as the mountain. No worries about finding a suitable lunch or place for a evening drink around here.

Beginners will love the dedicated space just for them that will help them get up to speed in no time. The intermediate and extra speedy can pick from a range of runs, all set in a fantastic 157km area that’s very well looked after.

There's a wonderful range of blue and red runs, as well as some world-class black slopes that are all expertly maintained too. The safe terrain makes it perfect for exploring on your own or with a guide.

Skip the lift queues and take a helicopter up the mountain to drop you off for your own private run. There’s no better way to explore the forgiving off-piste here.

Swap your skis or board for snow shoes and head out on an excursion to enjoy the mountain scenery and explore places you wouldn't normally get to see.

Alternatively, why not try a more relaxed, four-legged form of transport. Choose from either husky dogs or horses to draw your carriage around the area to see a different side to Baqueira.

Don't miss...

Don't miss...

The nightlife is more on the low-key side of and mainly centred around the hotel bars, but if you love fine wine and tapas, you’ll be in holiday heaven.

Make sure you stop for a long lazy lunch at Restaurant 1800. Afterwards, treat yourself to a well-earned glass of bubbly at the Moët bar.
