Dinghy sailing

The great thing about dinghy sailing is the freedom of racing across the water with the wind in your hair and the sun on your face. On our beachclub holidays we can teach complete beginners to sail and more experienced sailors will always be able to learn more from our friendly team of water sports instructors.

Inclusive sailing tuition

Sailing tuition is included on your holiday, there's no need to book tuition or courses before you travel, it's all done once you arrive at the beachclub.

The team are always helpful and encouraging. There’s absolutely no reason not to give it a go – at least once! Tuition sessions are grouped by ability, so you’ll always be sailing and learning with people of a similar level.  After a few pointers on the beach, grab a buoyancy aid and you’re ready to set sail.

If you can already sail, there's no need to join a session (unless you want to), simply choose a dinghy, let the beach team know and head out into the sailing area. The water sports beach is open every day from 9.30am until the last guest comes off the water and will also remain open over lunchtime, so you can sail all day if you want to.

Beginner sailing tuition

If you're new to water sports and want to give sailing a go, we can teach you the basics to get you on the water and sailing solo in light winds. We'll cover rigging and de-rigging of kit, launching and landing, sailing in all directions, and to bring it all together, a little bit of theory.

Wind and weather permitting, if you spend enough time on the water and attend all of the sessions, you could come away with your RYA Level 1 - Start Sailing certificate.  Just let us know if that's something you want to do.

Beginner sailing tuition is available in all beachclubs apart from Cosmos Beachclub where the focus is on windsurfing.

inclusive

Intermediate sailing tuition

If you have some sailing experience and can sail a triangular course this is the next level for you.

Intermediate sailors follow the RYA Level 2 - Basic Skills course. You'll be taught how to rig and launch, pick up essential safety knowledge (including how to recover from capsize) and learn how to sail in all directions. You will come away at the end of this course a competent, light wind sailor.  If you want to get your RYA Level 2 certificate, talk to a member of the beach team and they'll let you know what is required.

Intermediate sailing tuition is available in all beachclubs except Cosmos Beachclub.

Sailing clinics and racing

If you can sail safely and comfortably you can join us for a number of clinics throughout the week (wind and weather permitting). The clinics we run will typically include sailing with spinnakers, how to race and sailing high performance craft (catamarans and keelboats).

Dinghy racing is now so popular that we run a series of events over the course of the week, with a mid week and end of week regatta. The racing is aimed at all levels, it's all about taking part and having fun (it's OK to show your competitive side too)!

Our dinghies

We pick the best kit from Hartley, Laser, RS and Topper. The exact kit list will vary depending on the different wind and weather conditions at each of the beachclubs, but typically you're likely to come across some of the following kit:

Hartley (10, 12, Supernova, Wayfarer); Laser (1, 2000, Bahia, Dart 16, Pico, Vago); RS (16 catamaran, 200, Feva, Aero); Topper (Argo, Omega, Topaz 14CX, Topaz 16 CX); Hobie 15.

Check out the individual beachclub pages for a guide to the dinghies we plan to have available for your use.

Sailing for kids

If you’ve got any budding young sailors in the family, they will love Hot Shots, a multi-activity kids' club that's just perfect for children who can't get enough of water sports. Under the watchful eye of our beach team, they will eat, sleep and breathe watersports - it could be sailing, windsurfing, stand up paddle boarding or kayaking.

We teach the RYA Youth Sailing Scheme, it’s so much fun, they won’t realise how much they’re learning. The Hot Shots club can be booked for a supplement (£195 per week).

Kids don't have to be a Hot Shot to go sailing; children aged up to 13 are welcome to sail with a parent or guardian; while children aged 14 and above can join the adult teaching sessions.

Dinghy Foiling

At its most basic you might describe a hydrofoil as a wing that enables a boat to 'fly' above the water - reducing drag and increasing speed. Foiling is suitable for any sailor with a RYA level 2 basic skills qualification who is happy sailing a Laser or similar.  If this sounds like you, then join us at our brand-new Mar Menor Beachclub in Spain for your first flight!

First flights: This course provides a basic introduction to foiling and foiling equipment, whilst gives you the skills required to help you make your first foiling flight. The course runs for three hours with a maximum of four other people and can be pre-booked for £70 per person.

Sustained flights: Once you have completed your first flight's course, you can join the sustained flight course. You'll be working on the techniques and theory required to foil, steer and sustain foiling effectively. The course runs for a total of 16 hours across two days with a maximum of four other people and can be pre-booked for £200 per person.
